    Life at Prashanti Vidya Mandir

    Thought for the day

“Love is God. Live in Love.”

What it is like to grow up here

Your child wakes before the mountains have found their light,

where mist embraces the valleys, and the dawn sings softly through the trees.

She lifts her voice with the morning prayer,

and blends it with the voices singing the pre-dawn Song of Awakening,

and in that quiet moment, learns that strength begins with gratitude.

    The hills become her classroom.

    The sky becomes her ceiling.

    Nature becomes her first teacher.

She learns to wonder before she learns to answer,

    to listen before she speaks,

    to serve before she seeks.

    Each sunrise awakens curiosity.

    Each lesson shapes wisdom.

    Each friendship nurtures compassion.

Each day reveals a little more of who she is meant to become.

When evening gathers the mountains in gold,

she returns home, not only with books in her hands,

but with kindness in her heart, confidence in her spirit,

peace in her mind, and joy in her soul.

For this is more than a school.

It is where childhood blossoms, character is nurtured,

and every child learns to become a light unto the world.

    The heart of our school

Four cardinal values, lived every day

Sathya, Dharma, Shanti and Prema: truth, right conduct, peace and love. They are woven through every lesson and every school day, taught not as a subject but as a way of life.

    A different kind of school

    Character before marks

Here the end of education is character. The Four Cardinal Values are not a subject on the timetable but the way the whole school lives.

    Rooted since 1984

Founded at the command of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, the school has shaped generations of children of these hills for four decades.

    A home in the hills

Day scholars and boarders alike grow up in the clean mountain air of Gangtok, in a school that knows every child by name.

    Music and the arts, daily

From the founder's own school song to the school band, music and aesthetics are woven through every day, not saved for a stage.

    CBSE, taught in values

A full CBSE curriculum, Affiliation 1820149, taught in the idiom of human values by teachers who teach the child, not just the subject.

    The Sai Educare way

Schooling for Excellence: academic, environmental and human excellence together, so a child leaves not only able, but whole.

    Our founder

    The gift of a school

In the year 1983, Bhagawan instructed Mrs. Phigu Tshering Tenzin to start a Values School in Sikkim while she was in Prashanti Nilayam to avail of Bhagawan’s Divine Darshan. Resultantly, the School was inaugurated on May 6, 1984 at her residence Prashanti Niketan in Gangtok.

Swami instructed her that the school must be an example of Schooling for Excellence as taught by Him. Following the inauguration she went to Prashanti Nilayam where Swami told her about the importance of discipline, the manner in which she should organise programs and conduct herself in a manner befitting the opportunity given by Him.

He even spelt out the theme for the logo of the School and asked her to let a good artist design it carefully. “The logo represents the vision and mission of the school,” Swami said to her. Thereafter each year, Mrs. Tenzin made her pilgrimage to Prashanti Nilayam where Bhagawan would ask her about the progress of the school and she would in all her devout humility submit the annual report to Beloved Bhagawan.

    The Emblem

“The logo represents the vision and mission of the school,” Swami said — and asked that a good artist design it carefully. Every element carries a meaning.

The emblem of Sri Satya Sai Prashanti Vidya Mandir

    The rising sun

The dawn of knowledge, rising over the school’s name — each day of learning a new sunrise.

    The two elephants

Strength, patience and auspicious beginnings, standing guard on either side of learning.

    The lotus

Purity of heart at the very centre — blooming above the water, untouched by it.

    The unbroken ring

The wholeness of education: head, heart and hand held together in one golden circle.

    Sung every morning since 1984

    The School Song

Bless Thy School, O Lord we pray
Keep it safe by night and day

Bless these walls so firm and stout
Keep the false and evils out

    Bless the classes, teachers all
    Spread Thy wisdom over all

Bless these gates that they may prove
Ever open to Joy and Love

    Bless these windows shining bright
    Letting in God's Heavenly Light

Bless the hearts of all in tune
With grace ascending like the moon

    Bless Thy children here within
Keep them pure and free from sin

Bless us all, O Lord we pray
That we may shine from day to day.

    Music at Prashanti Vidya Mandir

    Music & the arts

Where music teaches what it means to be human

Music and the aesthetic arts hold a special place at Prashanti Vidya Mandir, taught in the spirit of the guru and shishya tradition. Through group singing, classical music and the arts, children learn discipline, devotion and joy in a single practice.

This tradition is growing into Sai Abhyudaya, our initiative for a conservatory of music, art and life, so that the arts remain not an extra but a way of forming character.
